Here are the Top 6 Public Golf Courses in Scottsdale as rated by me, past guests and friends. Please keep in mind our rating system is based on a variety of things including views, course difficulty, price, trip adviser ratings, personal experiences (this can sway it a bit if one of us had a real bad round at a particular course). We would love to hear if your opinion differs. Feel free to use our contact form and send us a message. Also, please note that these are Scottsdale courses so other area courses in Tempe and Phoenix were not included in this list.
This makes the list at Number 1 for obvious reasons. It hosts one of the most attended golf events (Waste Management Open) in the world and is the only event that is considered a party. Truly Happy Gilmore style. This course is absolutely breathtaking with the views of mountains in sight around every single hole. While I nor my friends have ever played particularly well at this course, it is a must see if golf is what brought you to Scottsdale. This is about 25 minutes north of our home.
Coronado Golf Scottsdale
Coronado makes the list for no other reason other than it is walking distance from my house, cheap and has a lighted driving range. If you are just a vacation golfer and aren’t planning to turn pro, this is a course you don’t want to miss. Actually, if you are renting out house it will be near impossible to miss since the neighborhood butts up against the course. Great place to bring kids and anyone that doesn’t want to look foolish holding up another foursome. My personal favorite and is about a 4 minute drive from our house.
Kierland Golf Club
This golf course is located at the Westin Resort and Spa in central Scottsdale. I am not sure there is a pretty course in Scottsdale and maybe the state. This course combines all the elements you would expect to find at the nicest private clubs in the world and offers it as a public course. One of my personal favorites due to the course design. It also happens to be one of the best rounds of golf I have ever played so it makes my list at number 3. This course is about a 20 minute drive from our house.
Continental Golf Club
This course is definitely known as the local’s hang out spot. It is an executive course, but not your typical one. You will have the ability to use every club in your bag. It has become a sort of local favorite spot due to the fact it offers night golf. It really is an experience if you have never tried it. This course is another favorite due to the fact it is close and convenient and allows you to work on your game in a pretty stress free environment. This course is about a 6 minute drive from our house.
Talking Stick Golf Club
This is one of the newest golf courses in Scottsdale. It is attached to Talking Stick Casino and right next to the Diamondbacks spring training complex. This is a beautiful course that definitely puts the fun back into the game. The culture that is culminated at this course is the reason it made our list. I relied heavily on past guest reviews of this course as I have only been to it once, but it was awesome. This course is located approximately 10 minutes from our house.
Located at the Four Season’s Resort, this is one of the well known courses in Scottsdale. It offers a combination of expansive desert views, difficult fairways and a pretty state of the art club house. Troon North actually offers two 18 hole golf courses that stretch all the way to the foothills of Pinnacle Peak. Both Monument and Pinnacle courses are consistently among the top rated courses in Arizona. This made it onto the list because I felt like it had to, but there are other less known courses around that rival Troon North. This is about 30 minutes from our house.
